So the creation of the brand has kind of a funny story.
I’m a birthday person, always have been, always will be.
Also an events person! Love me a gathering! (In another life I’d be a socialite – fingers still crossed).
Anyway, for my birthday I love having an extra touch: a headband, a sash, an outfit, a badge – anything that adds a little sparkle to the day!
My fave item was the headband but unfortunately, as we all know, there’s only a few generic options (bride to be, birthday girl, birthday queen) with maybe three colours ever available. *Not* ideal for someone who loves a personal touch. But hey, that’s what they had so, so be it!
It was my 25th and my friend gave me the cutest band that had a phrase I hadn’t seen before – Birthday Princess – so very fitting for moi.
The next year I wanted to buy the same one, but they didn’t make them anymore, *sighhh*
For the next two years, I tried to find it or something like it that was new and unique. No luck, so I changed track. I should be able to find a company that makes custom ones no? I don’t always have to buy one that comes from the same singular source that everyone then just stocks.
No uniqueness. No individuality.
Now the third year came round and it was going to be my champagne birthday, 28 on the 28th!! I had to have something special. I tried Nigeria, I tried America & I tried the UK. All to no avail.
Until…. I found someone!! She was certain she could do it. I loved the colour of the sample generic, Happy Birthday and I asked for it to be customized to say Birthday Princess. She said it would take two weeks. No problem. I was super excited!
It came in the post and it was the generic happy birthday with a note printed on A4 that said in cursive “Birthday Princess”. I’ll spare you the details on my reaction.
At this point, I was moving back to Lagos and I decided that enough is enough. I had to find a way to create a band that said 28 on the 28th myself!
After a lot of research and trial and error! (so much error) I finally found a way. I’d found a working formula to produce these wonderful sparkly bands that stood out and added that little something that just brings together the whole day and look.
Then I thought, I can’t be the only one facing such a predicament. There have to be others that relate to this struggle (dramatic I know). That’s how Say It With a Headband! Was Born. From a gift and frustration, I decided that we should all be able to say what we like… with a headband!
This isn’t something that you are going to find elsewhere. Trust me I have tried.
